Small choices.
Huge impact.
It would be fantastic to be able to accept everything that is brought in to us. Unfortunately, we cannot deal with everything that is brought to our site. Our capacity is large, but it has limits, and there are certain items that do not find any use any longer.
We do take as much as we can and what is viable to keep in a circular economy. We have to face it, some items have reached their end of life when they are offered to us and we cannot take on the responsibility of your landfill.
Items brought in should be:
- In reasonable, working order. Items that are badly damaged or worn out are not suitable to bring in.
- Please bring your items to us clean and dry. Damp, dirty, badly stained or items in poor condition are not suitable for us to deal with.
- Please talk to staff before unloading and do not leave any items at our gates.
We can consider:
Furniture, tools, hardware, household & kitchen items, gardening tools, garden pots, bric-a-brac, DIY project materials, most timbers at a reasonable length, windows, doors, roofing iron & tiles (not decramastic as they contain asbestos), paint, sports gear, clean metals and within our recycling scheme electronic items and certain plastics for a recycling fee.
We can also recycle separated and clean:
- number 2 plastic lids from milk bottles
- number 5 plastic lids e.g. from yoghurt and ice cream containers or juice lids
- wine bottle lids and other metal lids from beer bottles and glass jars
We do not accept:
- General rubbish
- Hazardous waste e.g. toxic chemicals, asbestos or anything containing asbestos like decramastic roofing tiles, old meter boards, night store heaters
- Broken or damaged furniture, beds and mattresses
- Dirty or torn clothing or manchester
- Recycling that is accepted through TDC, like glass bottles, cardboard and 1, 2 & 5 plastics
If you are unsure, please contact us and we are happy to let you know if we can take your items.
In addition, here at Weka Peckers we offer you different types of recycling outside of the recycling schemes covered by our local council. As these recycling schemes are not funded or only partially subsidised some incur a fee to cover the additional labour, freight and diversion streams involved.
